THE POWER OF BELIEF
Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness. I see that God in his “presentations” to us leaves room for us to doubt. Abraham chose to believe God even though what God presented to him seemed out of reach. It did not add up from a logical point of view; he was too old and there were many other arguments that doubt came to present against God’s promise.
Therefore, even if we audibly hear the voice of God, doubt will question it. Nevertheless, when we do not hear an actual voice the mind can become a steam roller of unbelief.
If we do not believe God when he speaks to us, how can we then walk with him? If we do not believe his communiqués, his impressions, his signs … how can we be obedient? This is also called being led by the Spirit. We wait endlessly for an audible voice… so that we will not have to believe. Or are we simply afraid to believe? This is why faith is such an abstract to what we think it is and it is supposed to be this way.
God does speak to us; it is recognizing it that is the problem. Most of the time, God is speaking indirectly using thoughts, impressions, signs and even scriptures that come to mind. God’s method is indirect because it exercises and inspires faith. God dwells in thick darkness and we must search the light in order to find things that are hidden by our ignorance. Our ignorance is also darkness. It is ours to pickax our way into it, choosing to believe God in spite of the fog involved: choosing to be insane, so to speak.
The question is, how do we know it is God’s voice and not simply our imagination running wild? If we know anything at all, we must understand that we cannot “know” anything that is spiritual; that is, with some sort of tangible, “put your hand on it,” proof.
This is the test that God chooses for all who would walk with him. It is not one simple test and then we are beyond it and home free. It is many test and trials in the substance of faith, as we walk being led by that same substance. It is by the test of faith that we please God and walk the rim of insanity. I said some time ago that we live on the rim of insanity. The word, “insanity,” is the best way to describe it; in our case though, it’s like a man jumping off of a tall building but he is the only one who knows there is a net just above the ground. Some would say, “What a fool.” Others, who know would say, “He understands what he is doing.”
Nevertheless, when faith is present doubt is there as well. This is a cue for our big, fat, super logical minds to come waddling in for the big wrestling match. Even if we have a vision, the carnal mind can try to wrestle that to the ground as well. Scriptural revelation is on the same level, it is all the voice of God. It is a matter of receiving it.
Voices, in the natural realm, become familiar by being in close proximity over time. We cannot become familiar with the Lord though, except through belief and staying close to that belief. The actuality of spiritual reality is created in believing it to be so. Belief opens the door to the substance in which we can exercise our way past our natural minds. All things are possible to them who… what?
We exercise our belief in the same wide open spaces that dreams and fantasies appear in our minds. One must work with these things and dare to be daring. Patience though, has a perfect work here. Think of it as a garden where the impossible is grown.
Don’t be anxious to share these experiences with every brother that will listen. In fact, keep it to yourself, unless God moves you otherwise. Some things revealed… are not wise to utter; those truly seeking and believing, will arrive at those understandings on their own. Nevertheless, spiritual treasures must be recognized, lest you find one and doubt seduces you to throw it aside. Therefore, you will continue to look for that which you had in your hand. Patience often means exploring slow and deliberately and not being anxious at all.
The presentation of a “supper” as an illustration of a unique merging- metamorphosis is one of God’s most often un-discerned presentations. The illustration of insanity in this, with Jesus, is apparent! When a man will say, in order to fellowship with me, you must cannibalize my body… that man is crazy! Nevertheless, that is how those who heard Jesus’ proclamation of eating his flesh and drinking his blood reacted. And many that followed him were offended and left his fellowship. To the natural mind, who could say such things and not be crazy?
The merging (metamorphosis) between us and the Lord is more important than all the study and revelation we can acquire in a lifetime. If we want to be smiled upon, that is where we should be. And all things being possible to them that believe… we can go there.
Marriage is where two individuals become one. It is a merge! At least, that’s the theory in the natural life. Spiritually, this is filled with reality: we eat his flesh and drink his blood so that
he may be in us and we in him. This is of course a metaphor, which is realized when we understand its holy balance and its spiritual application and we simply believe it. Press into it!
Pretending that we believe, as many do, is fruitless, until we choose to receive the understanding. That is, that we are entering into what seems to be insane to the logical mind. This is not saying that we actually become fools but it appears that way to the observer who does not understand. That is if they could see us; we are (most of the time) invisible. Insanity and foolishness is also a good metaphor for understanding the spiritual structure of the substance of faith.
It is not the seeking of power that is the target; the power is already there. The oneness with the Lord is the target! It is beyond where we think it is and where we think we are. It has a price as well. The price is all that you have; we must pay the price to enter the realm of righteousness and holiness.
The “City” has twelve gates. Each gate is a pearl. These are the entrances to the City of God. The City is a Bride; she has twelve stars. If we want entrance, there is only one way. Sell all that we have and buy that pearl. Sell all of our attachments to the natural world and all religious carry-overs, including what you think you know. That is the toll! Jesus is the only way to the Father. Anyone who comes to the Father goes THROUGH him, he is the pearl of great price! He is the way. This is what the merge is all about. This is very much the metaphor of marriage.
We cannot think that “we have need of nothing” or that we are already there... that is, unless we are.
Of course, this is the language of the metaphor so it has all the abstract facets of a diamond but is still the same single precious stone. There is much to see in the City of God but the entrance is the most important part. That is, if we find ourselves outside with the spiritual dogs, whores and all manner of un-holiness. No unrighteousness goes through the gates! This includes little particles of unholy Babylonian filth!
Guess what? If we have not sold everything… we fall short of paying the toll. It’s an old religious cliché, “Jesus paid the price;” this makes it sound like a free ride. That is not true. The cost is everything we have and we are glad to pay it! To be in him is what we live for. To those who understand these things, what else is there? Everything else in our lives is literally incidental.
Remember the balances! This is a measured city. The city’s dimensions are exact. Those who enter have been obedient and holy: exact! Their spirits by measurement have been made perfect: an exact measurement. Do not compare this to the natural marriage! This is a spiritual marriage and it is laid out many ways, only to paint a picture of Him in us and us in Him! It’s that simple, even with its many complexities and progressive levels of understanding.
This also transcends time, since “the time” has been at hand for over a thousand years. The Lord is an eternal being. If we want to talk about abstracts, there is one thing we don’t comprehend and that is eternity. I don’t pretend to understand eternity in its depth, nor do I understand why I am compelled to lay it out this way. The fact is that we don’t have to understand everything to please God. We do have to be obedient and holy and we must believe the Lord.
If He says, He is at the door knocking and wants to come in for supper, shouldn’t we be obedient to that request? It doesn’t just happen; there is a process that takes place. In this case, we are in charge of the entrance… he must be allowed in. It is very much like the act of sex but in this case a “holy intercourse.” Think (metaphorically) about the mental focus of the sexual act because that’s what this is: the concentration and the sweat to get to the end of the runway… so to speak.
This is a heated participation between two lovers, devouring one another with fervency; after all, it’s also a supper! This is where the metamorphosis takes place; this is the metaphor of the wine and the bread made manifest in real time! It happens on an individual level but shows up as one body functioning together. Harmony is a spiritual function, not a human function. This answers the question of why there is discord where it should not be among us!
God created this holy homogenization to perpetuate new life; there will be a birth out of this substance of faith.
